We’re a little less than two months away from the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but it seems everyone involved is scared that the film isn’t going to open, or will be forgotten or something as we’ve just received three new clips from the movie. If this rate of new footage keeps up, it’s likely half the film will be online by the time of release.
The other problem… tone. The playful side of Spidey is being sold here (mostly), but the trailers have played up the sheer volume of bad guys, and there’s a lot of moving parts at play here, so it’s hard to get a grasp on the film. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field, Chris Cooper, and Paul Giamatti, and these clips feature most of those performers. Check it out:
We weren’t crazy about the first new film, which was definitely hurt by having to cover much of the same terrain as the Sam Raimi movies, so it’s possible that now they’ve gotten all the introductions out of the way, they can do something interesting. That said, The Amazing Spider-Man was easily the lowest grossing Spidey movie, and Sony is committing to this universe in a dangerous way by already suggesting there will be two more sequels after this and a Sinister Six film. They really want to be in the comic book game after the first Spider-Man showed how big these movies could be. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2.
Will you go see this opening weekend?
