LEGO

Last month audiences fell in love with The LEGO Movie, and the film is on track to make over $250 Million domestically, and quite well overseas. It’s made so much money that Warner Bros is looking to make a sequel, though this time with a different director.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller won’t be returning in the director’s chairs for the sequel, but that’s all right, Chris McKay has been hired in their steed. He’s someone not many people know by name, but someone whose work you’re probably familiar with as he’s directed a number of Robot Chicken episodes, including Robot Chicken: Star Wars: Episode III. On top of that, he was animation supervisor on The LEGO Movie so he’s mighty familiar with this particular stop-motion animated world. While it will be his feature film debut, at least the stop-motion animation won’t be unfamiliar territory for him.

While it is a little disappointing that Lord and Miller won’t return for the sequel, they have already expressed interest in staying on board as producers. They were executive producers on the sequel to another animated film of theirs, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. The sequel was arguably not as good as the original, but hopefully The LEGO Movie sequel won’t be suffer the same fate. We’ll just have to put our faith in Warner Bros and company, hoping that everything will still be awesome for this upcoming film.
