Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry

It’s surprising it’s taken this long, but Cartoon Network has unveiled a bunch of their plans for the future, and the channel has announced that they’re planning to reboot some comic legends with new cartoons for Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo, on top of plans to create a cartoon miniseries.

This news comes from Variety, who note that Adult Swim is now extending to cover 8 p.m. through to 6 a.m., and that the miniseries is titled Over The Garden Wall, and will star Elijah Wood and Melanie Lynskey, on top of a new Lego series (LEGO NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu) and Sonic Boom, which will resurrect the Sonic the Hedgehog character for more adventures.

But the Bugs Bunny cartoons is by far the most interesting part of this announcement. Though the classic character were used sparingly during WB’s animation boom of the 90′s (Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain), there have been two live action hybrids that have attempted to resurrect the classic Looney Tunes characters: Space Jam (which may yet get a sequel with LeBron James) and the horribly underrated Looney Tunes: Back in Action. But now seems the right time for Bugs (and hopefully Elmer Fudd and Marvin the Martain, etc.) to be reimagined, and if they get the right people involved, this could be magic. It could also be an abuse of a brand name, but you never know.

Who’s your favorite side character in the Looney Tunes world?
