With shooting about to commence in less than two months, it’s strange how quiet it’s been on the Star Wars: Episode 7 front. Seriously, this is one of the biggest movies of all time in terms of hype and possibility, and yet no actor has been confirmed yet for J.J. Abrams‘ film. But that may have just changed as it’s been leaked that Adam Driver is up for a villainous role in the new Star Wars, a role that’s been compared to Darth Vader.
This news comes from Variety, and it’s amazing to think how quickly Driver’s ascended. He broke out with a role in the Lena Dunham series Girls, and was recently in Frances Ha for Noah Baumbach and in Joel and Ethan Coen‘s Inside Llewyn Davis, while currently he’s working with Martin Scorsese as he has a role in his upcoming film Silence. Recently Driver was rumored to be playing Robin in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie, and this confirms he’s been getting auditions for all the A-list movies. But this casting news makes us wonder if Benedict Cumberbatch is still in the running for a role.
Considering, as Variety notes, the film is supposed to start shooting in April, it’s going to be hard to keep the lid on the casting much longer, at least if they’re going to make their scheduled December 18, 2015 release date. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest for sure.
Who would you like to see playing a new Vader figure?
