Despite the fact that it’s set to be one of 2014’s mega-blockbusters (a bankable and universally-known franchise, a cast roster that includes stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen, and the kind of destructo-porn that defines modern blockbusters), Legendary’s reboot of Godzilla hasn’t exactly been tossing out tons of ad material like, say, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which has essentially released the entire film via trailers and TV spots. Legendary seems to be going for the oblique route (or as oblique as a company can be about a multi-million dollar film about a giant lizard that breaks whole cities), offering only quick peeks at the big beast, and the new trailer for the film keeps the ambiguity going.
Mainly, what you get here are a lot of the aforementioned destructo-porn, narrated by a lot of Bryan Cranston’s gravelly yelling and punctuated by the Inception horns that are the soundtrack to all self-serious modern movie trailers. Oh, and hey, did we mention there is a big green lizard?
The rebooted Godzilla is set for a May 16, 2014 release date.
