Gary Oldman

Because today is a day whose name ends with a “y,” it’s time for a casting rumor/ news bit concerning the upcoming, as-yet untitled Star Wars: Episode VII.  And while we’re still waiting to hear if the rumored Jesse Plemons and the seemingly ever-present Benedict Cumberbatch will appear in the monolithically anticipated film directed by J.J. Abrams, we now have news that Gary Oldman may appear in the film.

The actor, who is no stranger to massive blockbuster franchises (The Dark Knight trilogy, the Harry Potter series, the Planet of the Apes franchise), may now join perhaps the most well-known and prestigious (prequels or no) pop culture franchise of all time.

During a recent interview, Oldman dropped a tidbit about being contacted to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII, having this to say about the matter:

“They’ve called, yeah… I’m more cynical about it (casting) now, I believe it when I’m on the plane home. You know, the deal isn’t done (until then). But yeah, they’ve inquired.”

No word yet on who Oldman would portray (or if he has actually been contacted for this particular film), but hey, it’s Star Wars news, so we have to write about it, right?

What do you think of the Star Wars news?
