Michael Bay is back at the helm, but instead of the now controversial (and reviled) Shia LaBeouf leading the charge, it’s Mark Wahlberg. Here he seems to be tasked with keeping his family out of the way of Autobots and Decepticons alike. Whether that’s going to make for a more entertaining movie has yet to be seen. But perhaps Pain and Gain helped re-energize Bay about the franchise, and maybe this time he can keep his comedy instincts a little more on point, and maybe they came up with a coherent narrative that isn’t eye-gouging in its overkill. This is more a tease than a reveal, which works well for the franchise. The Super Bowl spot for Transformers: Dark of the Moon was definitely a show stopper, even if the movie itself was underwhelming. We come to these movies with a wait and see approach, even if the film is pretty much destined to make over a billion dollars worldwide. Still… Dinobots. Transformers: Age of Extinction hits theaters June 27.
