Though Need for Speed may not have the same big budget pull of some of the other Super Bowl spots, it suggests an action movie that has mind-blowing practical effects and stunts (remember those?), and fills the hole that was left by Fast and Furious 7, which has been moved into 2015. Now there’s two new spots for the film, and they’re great.
What’s interesting about the movie is that it hopes to launch Aaron Paul as a movie star. Whether that takes or not (he’s got a number of prime roles lined up, so it may not happen with the first film) is unknown, but we’re pulling for the Breaking Bad star. Then again, going by the big TV spot, the stars of the movie may be the cars (not co-stars Imogen Poots or Dominic Cooper), and the sense of driving fast. This first spot is one of the best cut trailers we’ve seen in a long time:
On top of that, they’ve also released an extended cut/different trailer, with an introduction by Paul and Scott Mescudi née Kid Cudi:
As fans of car chase/crash films like Vanishing Point, The Road Warrior, and the best of the Fast and Furious franchise, this has definitely got us interested to see the movie, which hits theaters March 14.
