If you’re familiar with the Spider-Man comics then you know that Peter Parker’s first love, Gwen Stacy, is killed after being tangled up in this superhero world that she doesn’t belong in. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 greatly teases that we’ll see the sweet blonde meet her death, but from the way Emma Stone is talking, we’re guessing there’s a 50/50 chance of that happening.
During a recent interview, actress Emma Stone spoke up about what could be happening to Spider-Man’s main squeeze in the upcoming sequel. She doesn’t say anything blunt like “Yes, Gwen will certainly die” but she answered like so:
“I think the intention the whole time has been to tell Gwen’s story as closely to the comic as possible. That’s been the director’s idea and the studio’s idea. We’ll see if that comes into fruition.”
There could be a possibility that Gwen Stacy could live on past The Amazing Spider-Man 2. One of the reasons for that is the sudden disappearance of Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming film. Shailene Woodley filmed a couple scenes as everyone’s favorite girl-next-door, but we’ve learned recently that they’ve been chucked out for whatever reason. If they stretch out the inevitable death of Gwen Stacy, that would be a pity. They would be pulling the same unnecessary stunt done with Shane in The Walking Dead series, keeping him alive much longer than he should be.
These characters are dead for a reason; they propel our heroes to make life-altering decisions about the way they handle themselves and take care of others around them, striving to protect them even more in the face of adversity. We’ve seen pictures of Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy in the iconic outfit, the one she wears on the day of her death, so more than likely they’ll still be getting rid of the character in the new film.
Do you think Gwen Stacy should have lived on past the first Amazing Spider-Man film?
