As far as the Breaking Bad prequel/ spin-off Better Call Saul goes, we don’t much about the upcoming series, aside from the fact that, yes, it will focus on sleazy comic-relief lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) and will take place prior (and perhaps during) the events featured in Breaking Bad. But late yesterday, the show got a big addition.
BREAKING BAD SPOILERS AHEAD!
It was announced on Monday that in addition to Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks has been added as a regular cast member of Better Call Saul. Banks starred as the fan-favorite Mike Ehrmantraut on Breaking Bad, the gruff and stoic former police officer-turned-hitman/fixer for series Big Bad Gustavo Fring and, later, contentious partner to Walter White. And clearly, Better Call Saul will take place prior to Breaking Bad, as Walter murdered Mike near the end of the first half of Breaking Bad’s fifth season.
Adding Banks as a series regular to Better Call Saul is a near-perfect play—Banks excels in the character of Mike, the fans love both the actor and character, and Mike serves as a perfect foil to the sleazy Saul.
Better Call Saul is set for a November 2014 premiere date on AMC.
