Disney has released a new trailer for the live-action movie Maleficent, and it’s appropriate to say that the studio has redeemed itself. The first teaser trailer for the movie was absolutely horrible, with cheesy, dated narration and just awful clips of Angelina Jolie laughing like a typical, evil witch. But last night, during the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, a 90-second trailer was released and it restored our desire to watch this movie. Check it out.
Directed by Robert Stromberg, Maleficent explores the untold story of Sleeping Beauty‘s iconic villain. Here’s a continued synopses:
…Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.
Set to a haunting, never-before-heard version of “Once Upon A Dream” by Lana Del Rey, the new trailer has a completely different tone. Even the CGI looks better here, not to mention Jolie, who looks absolutely stunning with those wicked horns on her head. Check it out:
So, are you sold? Here’s the thing. We can’t erase that first trailer from our heads (obviously), but when you have a cast that includes the likes of Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville, it’s hard not to be excited for this movie. So we’re going to give this one another shot. Are you in? Maleficent opens May 30, 2014.
