deathlok

Marvel’s infant series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been going through some obstacles for awhile, but they’ve been bulking up the second half of their first season with cool guest stars and slightly familiar characters that originated in the comic books. There’s quite a few fans of Deathlok out there, so a lot of you must be super happy to know that he’s going to be part of the show, and the character has been there since the first episode, played by J. August Richards.

There’s something about this news that makes me think that Marvel is absolutely desperate to keep their audience, or what little they have left, since the ratings have been continually dropping since the show first came on the air. Then again they’ve been planning to turn this character into Deathlok for some time now, so it’s not desperate as it it a little smart. At this point we really do know the character, and the fact that he’s tied into the main story line (bringing down Centipede) will make this character’s origin story arc that much sweeter. If you’ve been watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for awhile now you know that they’ve altered a couple of origin stories on some super villains, so the slight re-write on Deathlok isn’t any surprise.

Right now Mike Peterson (Richards) is trapped in a sticky situation. The members of S.H.I.E.L.D. think he’s dead, but he’s actually still under the control of Centipede and the Clairvoyant. There’s a possibility he could lean towards the villain end of the spectrum and attack the agents, but he really likes the group. I wouldn’t be surprised if this turned into part of the season finale.

Do you still watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
