The first full trailer for HBO’s Game of Thrones debuted last night (somewhere between the premiere of the new series True Detective and the return of Lena Dunham‘s Girls). We apologize in advance for this, because once you push play on this clip, you will just want to keep watching it over and over again. So grab a cup of Joe and enjoy.
Simply put, the trailer is just cool. There’s no other way to put it. There are some action sequences, and a smooth track by Chelsea Wolfe titled “Feral Love,” but the real kicker are the fierce quotes/crazy one-liners that totally tease the coming events of the new season. Check it out:
There is so much truth to the dialogue in this trailer, and most of it runs very deep into the themes of the show. Jorah Mormont says at some point, “It’s tempting to see your enemies as evil, but there’s good and evil on both sides of every war ever fought.” And he’s so right, because we’re not all good or all evil, but the idea that those who are against us are “the bad ones” is very alluring. Then we have the fierce Daenerys bluntly saying that people have a choice, “They can live in [her] new world, or they can die in their old one.” Ouch. And one of the best lines comes from our favorite characters – Tyrion Lannister. He ends the trailer saying, “If you want justice, you’ve come to the wrong place.” And this one is for the fans. This show isn’t going to play nice ever. If you want a cute, fair show, go watch The New Girl. On Game of Thrones, people are beheaded for stupid reasons, and the “good guy” hardly ever wins. This is a macabre world, and any character, whether main or not, can and will die at any moment (so suck it up).
Game Of Thrones Season 4 premieres April 6 at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
