There’s been a steady amount of talk circling around Terminator: Genesis, the upcoming reboot of the famed sci-fi franchise, for awhile now. We already know who’s going to play Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), but who’s going to be her beloved hero and one night stand Kyle Reese? Apparently there’s five actors in the running to play the famous character, and I’m not entirely thrilled with all the choices so far.
The lucky five who are in the running to play Kyle Reese include Thomas Cocquerel, Wilson Bethel, Boyd Holbrook, Sam Reid and Jai Courtney. They all fall around the same general look of a caucasian man in his 30s with a strong jaw line and a stern enough look on their face that will make you believe them when they say to Sarah “Come with me if you want to live.” At the same time they’re more or less unknowns, which means they could be wonderful or truly abysmal as Kyle Reese. Either way they’ll have a lot of judgmental eyes glaring at them as one of them gives their performance on screen.
One of the things I always loved about Kyle Reese, played by Michael Biehn in the original movie, was the boyish and slightly innocent look he had, but he still maintained that torn feeling of being in an awful war from the future. Normally I don’t like being that person pointing out how incredibly great the original was compared to the upcoming remake but the folks behind Terminator: Genesis have a lot of work ahead of them if they want to wrangle in the audience they want.
We’ve got Sarah Connor and we’re close to getting our Kyle Reese, but what about the famous Terminator? I know that Arnold Schwarzenegger will get his hands on any previous properties that he was a part of, but I don’t want to see him in the famous get-up again. I would rather see a younger face take the role but that’s just me.
Will you see Terminator: Genesis when it comes out in theaters?
