When it’s all said and done, it will be interesting to review the final box office numbers of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, as the film’s marketing strategy has been to basically shout from rooftops, “Hey, Jamie Foxx is totally blue in this thing, flies, and shoots electricity from his hands! (oh and look, it’s Green Goblin and a Rhino mech-suit thing).” The latest flurry of posters for the film are no different, focusing heavily on the Spider-Man vs. Electro plot, with just a little Green Goblin tossed in for good measure.
It’s hard not to wonder if the character of Spider-Man is going to get lost amidst all the villainy (remember how Spider-Man 3 was overloaded with Venom, Sandman, and yet another Green Goblin?), especially considering the fact Sony has made it clear that it’s in the franchise-building business and is amassing an army of Spidey villain films. But hey, you wanted to see those posters:
Despite our reservations about the fact that Sony seems less interested in Spider-Man than it is competing with Marvel, Warner Bros, and 20th Century Fox to build its own series of interconnected superhero films (not to mention the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man was, well, pretty boring), we’ll be in line just like everyone else to see the thing when it hits on May 2, 2014.
What do you think of the posters?
