Seeing as how The Amazing Spider-Man 2 features a scene in which mega-villains Electro and the Rhino attack the Time Square New Year’s Eve ball drop celebration in New York City, Sony scored the film some prime advertising by releasing an abbreviated clip of the scene to Time Square celebrators this week. And we have the clip below.
In the clip, Stan Lee shows up to mug and introduce the scene. Following that, Jamie Foxx’s Electro drops in to absorb some electricity before going nutty on the revelers, and the Rhino pops in for a few seconds of CGI. Then Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man shows up for some quips, catches a flying police cruiser, and does the prerequisite web-slinging.
Overall, it’s not a bad scene, but it’s so overloaded with CGI that it feels more like a cut-scene from a video game rather than a scene from an upcoming film.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was directed by Marc Webb, and is set for a May 2, 2014 release in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D. In addition to Andrew Garfield and Jamie Foxx, the film costars Paul Giamatti, Emma Stone, Chris Cooper, Dane DeHaan, Sally Field, and Felicity Jones.
