The latest rumor in the superhero/comic-book stratosphere is that Fox is planning to make a movie that brings together the Fantastic Four and X-Men. According to an investment company website, the movie will be based on a 1987 four issue comic called Fantastic Four Vs. X-Men, where the characters will face off against each other.

Now, the funny thing about this rumor is the source. This site, called The Motley Fool [via /Film], is meant to help “the world invest better,” which is why it’s so strange that they’re giving the scoop on a major Hollywood studio production. Then again, there’s a lot that rings true to the rumor. Here it is:

“After multiple movies in their respective franchises, Fox has now decided to combine the Fantastic Four and the X-Men for an “Avengers”-style movie that could pay off huge shareholders.

Based on a 1987 four issue comic called Fantastic Four vs. X-Men, the movie will see the characters against each other because of secrets regarding the Fantastic Four’s origin. The new movie also comes as Fox is rebooting the Fantastic Four series with new actors and actresses.”

Mark Millar has mentioned in that past that the two teams will eventually meet each other in a future film. Back in August, Millar said that one has to expect to see “some of these guys showing up in each other’s movies,” but he also clarified that this “crossover” wouldn’t happen anytime soon. We don’t know what kind of crossover film Fox and Millar have in mind. This is just a rumor, after all. What we do know is that a new Fantastic Four movie is planned for 2015, plus more X-Men movies in 2014 and 2016. Will 2016 give us the crossover film this website is reporting about? We won’t know until there’s more solid information.

What do you think? Would you want to see the Fantastic Four and X-Men face each other?
