Fast and Furious 7

After the tragic death of Paul Walker, it was unknown how Universal and everyone involved would deal with the Justin Lin-directed Fast and Furious 7. Universal weighed their options and are pushing forward as the film will now be released on April 10, 2015.

This news comes from Vin Diesel, who’s been very active in promoting whatever he’s doing through his Facebook page, and here’s his announcement:

There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come… Fast and Furious 7 will be released… April 10th 2015! P.s. He’d want you to know first…

Yep, that’s Vin Diesel on Facebook. You can almost here it in his voice.

The film had to navigate 2015′s already crowded calendar, as the year has The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, The Fantastic Four reboot, Batman Vs. Superman (or whatever they end up calling it), Ant-Man, Terminator 5 and Star Wars: Episode 7 on the schedule, just to name a few. And April was a strong launch for Fast Five, so it’s not a bad date.

What this announcement also suggests is that they’re going to use some of the footage they’ve already shot. The film was previously scheduled for July 11, 2014, so they’ve got nine additional months to film and finish, though it seems likely they’ve already got a game plan and could be back shooting next month. Perhaps part of the additional delay is to help get the tragedy out of audience’s minds, as the film will surely feature some death-defying car stunts. This is mostly good news, though how Universal handles Walker’s death in the film is still unknown, and could make or break the movie.

Will you go see Fast and Furious 7 opening weekend?
