For Wally Pfister’s directorial debut Transcendence, he wrangled up a lot of star power. Johnny Depp stars along side Cillian Murphy, Morgan Freeman, Paul Bettany and Rebecca Hall in this techno thriller, and here’s the first teaser.
And, as you can see, you’re only getting a teaser. Depp’s character talks about perception, and the singularity, which anyone who’s familiar with technology will have heard bandied about, but if you don’t know what it is here’s a definition. Because of the use of Binary code, this trailer definitely gives off a Matrix-esque feel, but there’s not much to go on here. Is Johnny Depp intentionally sickly looking? But though this has vague similarities to J.J. Abrams’ puzzle box approach to marketing, there are things to chew on here. Super computers, someone accepting technology’s advancement that others have warned about, etc. etc. This reminds of a number of science fiction films that have creators playing god and films in which sentient computers realize humans suck. But this does exactly what a teaser trailer should do: it teases. Transcendence hits theaters April 18.
Do you think Johnny Depp will give a performance in this film?
