In a modern re-jiggering of the slobs vs. snobs films of the 1980s (we’re looking at you, Animal House, Porky’s, and Revenge of the Nerds), Neighbors pits the straight-people snobs (Rose Byrne and an against-type Seth Rogan) against the anarchic slobs (led by Zac Efron) in the battle for a neighborhood when a frat moves next door to a married couple. (Technically, Efron looks more like a snob and Rogan looks more like a slob, but just run with it, ok?)
Despite the constraints of a green-band trailer (you can watch the far-raunchier red-band trailer here), the newest ad for Neighbors gets most of its point across, and even manages to climax with the same gross-out gag from the red-band clip, in which Rogan and Byrne’s newborn is caught munching on a condom in the front yard. So that’s gross.
Directed by Nick Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, The Five-Year Engagement) , Neighbors co-stars Dave Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Lisa Kudrow, and is set for a May 9, 2014 release date.
