News is really beginning to pick for the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman, with recent confirmation that Wonder Woman herself would be in the film (more or less confirming that the movie is, essentially, The Justice League). Just today, we have two major new bits of information to share about the film, concerning its villain and its screenwriter.
First up, the villain news. Warner Bros. has reached out and offered actor Joaquin Phoenix (Her, The Master) the role of the villain in the upcoming film. We don’t know who the character is (most money seems to be on Lex Luthor), but we do know that Phoenix has yet to accept the role, which does seem a little outside his wheelhouse.
Elsewhere, David Goyer’s original draft of the film’s screenplay is getting rewritten by Chris Terrio, the man who wrote the Ben Affleck-directed Argo. Affleck likely had a hand in this decision (and, honestly, any creative control asserted over director Zack Synder would relieve us).
Batman Vs. Superman is set for a July 17, 2015 release date.
