While initial Warcraft casting rumors indicating such names as Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, and Paul Dano, it appears that none of the above will be cast in the upcoming film adaptation of popular Warcraft videogame franchise. Universal has revealed a bulk of the main cast today, and it’s comprised mostly of lesser-known (i.e., comparatively cheap) talent.
The Warcraft cast, thus far, is comprised of Ben Foster (The Messenger, 3:10 to Yuma, X-Men: The Last Stand), the also-rumored Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Precious), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Rob Kazinksy (True Blood, Pacific Rim, Red Tails), and Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans, War Horse, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes). Further, Universal revealed that they are in “final stages” of negotiation with Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, My Week with Marilyn) to also star in the film.
While we have no clear idea as to what the film’s plot will be, we do know that it was written by Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-Pax), and then given a rewrite by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), who will also direct. The film is scheduled for a March 11, 2016 release date.
