We’re only a few days away from the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but with many of the big December releases about to hit theaters, it makes sense to sell the big summer movies of 2014 with the last big movies of 2013. But as we wait for that trailer, there’s a new poster which gives a look at three of the film’s villains.

Here’s the poster in full:

And here’s a closer look at Jamie Foxx‘s Electro:

As is evident from this poster, there’s going to be a number of super-villains in this film, and the makers have talked about their plans to have the Sinister Six in the franchise (whether they all show up in this film or the next is unknown… they’ve already set about making it a four film series). That’s a lot of bad guys for Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) to fight, but perhaps more importantly, they may take focus in the movie. Early word was that Paul Giamatti’s role as The Rhino was more of a cameo than anything else, but that could have changed, and we haven’t seen a superhero movie focus more on the villains since Batman Forever (though that may have been by default).

That said, going big and different  isn’t the worst idea for the franchise, as the first film was stuck doing the origin thing, which didn’t go over as well because Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man series wasn’t even a decade old when the reboot came out. That said, Raimi tried to have multiple bad guys in his final installment, but Spider-Man 3 is also the weakest of that franchise (partly because Raimi seemed to have little interest in Venom). This seems like a totally different approach, and that could work. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters May 2, and the new trailer hits Thursday.
