Hollywood is deeply uncreative when it comes to certain casting. Witness the proposed  big screen version of Kojak, the show made famous by baldy Telly Savalas. Who did Hollywood go after to replace him? Vin Diesel, because he’s sported a shaved head for over a decade at this point. And though no director has been signed, Diesel wants two time Oscar winner Ang Lee to helm the project.

When asked on Facebook “With what director would you like to work soon?”  Diesel responded “Kojak… New York… Ang Lee…” Why he would connect Ang Lee to New York is odd. Perhaps it’s Taking Woodstock, as the director doesn’t have many New York set movies. In fact of the modern directors, the first that come to mind are Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen and Spike Lee (Note: We would love to see Woody Allen’s Kojak).

In the scales of Vin Diesel saying embarrassing stuff, this is pretty low. Who wouldn’t want Ang Lee, and it’s not like he’s promising anything. Indeed, in the scale of dumb things Diesel’s done lately, it’s hard to compare it to this, Diesel rehearsing for a role in Guardians of the Galaxy he hasn’t been given/offered:

All that said, Diesel can be a very good actor, and if you haven’t seen him in Sidney Lumet’s Find Me Guilty, he’s actually excellent in that and working for one of the great New York directors.

Who would you like to see directing Kojak?
