We’ve heard rumors of a possible new Beetlejuice film since September of 2011, when news broke that Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows) was penning a screenplay, and that Tim Burton was considering directing the sequel to his original film. Fast forward to last month, when it was reported that Burton was finally in official talks to direct the film. And now, Winona Ryder, co-star of the original film, has let a few new details slip.
When asked by The Daily Beast if she was involved with the proposed film, Ryder stated “I’m kind of sworn to secrecy…but it sounds like it might be happening.”
Further, Ryder took time to relieve the whole world by letting us know that the film is not a remake, but is indeed set 27 years after the original film. Moreover, the actress made it clear she would “never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael. Because those guys, I love,” she said, referring to Burton and star Michael Keaton.
And now, seeing as how Ryder has been “sworn to secrecy,” it seems that Beetlejuice 2 may actually be happening. Let’s all just hope it’s not another, you know, Dark Shadows.
