The development road that Fifty Shades of Grey has taken from Twilight fanfiction to runaway successful novel for bored housewives to the inevitable film adaptation has been something of a bumpy one, seeing as how Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the lead role a few weeks in, and the fact that the film was up against an insane August 1, 2014 release date (which would also pit the film against Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy—either a slick bid for counter-programming or a borderline suicidal scheduling move).
So it should come as no surprise that EW (via Coming Soon) is now reporting that Universal has pushed Fifty Shades of Grey back from summer 2014 to Valentine’s Day 2015, meaning that couples all over the world can celebrate a manufactured holiday for romance by watching sadomasochistic film adaptation of a story that began as an internet fan fiction about a teenager falling in love with a vampire. Romance!
And as a cherry on top of that news for Fifty Shades of Grey fans, Universal has also released the first series of official images from the film. Check out Dakota Johnson and Hunnam replacement Jamie Dornan as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey:
