For some time now, we’ve assumed that Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene, Oldboy, Godzilla) was set to be cast as Scarlet Witch in the upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron. There were multiple rumors running that the gifted actress was “in talks” with Marvel to team with Godzilla co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who is set to play Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch’s brother, in The Avengers: Age of Ultron). Then Sam Jackson let it slip that Olsen had been added to the film. And now, Olsen has finally confirmed that she’s taken the gig.
In a recent round of press for Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy, Olsen let it leak that she is indeed Scarlet Witch, when she noted that she will be rejoining Taylor-Johnson on the Avengers sequel after Godzilla:
“Aaron Taylor-Johson and I] get to play husband and wife [in Godzilla], and we get to play twin brother and sister [in Avengers]. It’s also fun because even though in ‘Godzilla’ we play husband and wife, we don’t have a lot of scenes together. I just love him. I love his family. I love his kids. I’m so excited we get to work with each other more and to actually work with each other. I think it’s going to be fun.”
While it’s not much, and it’s not the spoiler-laden opiate that we, as a movie news site, so desperately crave with an all-consuming hunger, hey, it’s a confirmation. That’s something, right?
