Guillermo del Toro at the Miramax "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" panel at Comic-Con 2010

The announcement of Batman Vs. Superman, confirmed that Man Of Steel was only the beginning for DC’s “big plans” to create a Marvel-like universe. Though Warner Bros. has yet to confirm their plans to the world, Guillermo Del Toro, who was hired a while ago to make a little movie called Justice League Dark, revealed that the studio does plan to make an entire DC universe that spreads across film, TV and all sorts of media.

Del Toro’s Justice League Dark is said to feature characters like Swamp Thing, The Demon, John Constantine, Deadman, and Spectre. Zatanna and her father Zatara are expected to be in it as well. Here’s what del Toro told Cinefilos.it (via /Film) about the future of the DC Universe in film:

We’re still on (Justice League Dark), writing, and hopefully it will happen but there are no developments that are new. It’s still at Warner Bros., they are making plans for the entire DC universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They’re planning on TV, movies, and all the media, so we have to fit into that plan.

It’s no secret that Warner Bros. is trying to emulate the Marvel model, and seriously, at this point who isn’t? They’ve done things so well so far, and have some of the best talent working for them. It’s going to take DC a while, if ever, to catch up with Marvel. Many believe that DC will never be Marvel, and saying/believing that is fair game. But let’s not ignore that DC owns some of most beloved superheroes.

Honestly, Warner Bros. has their work cut out for them, they just need to come out with a good, solid plan. Batman Vs. Superman hits theaters in 2015.

What are your thoughts on this whole DC universe thing?
