Back in 2012, we reported to you that Paramount was looking to shore up their dwindling Paranormal Activity franchise box office receipts by releasing a spin-off/ side-quel that centered on more Catholicism-based haunting occurring to a group of Latino characters in a bid to cash in on the fact that Latino audiences make up 25% of all U.S. movie ticket sales.
Flash-forward to earlier this month, when we first saw the trailer for Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, which saw the ghostly spirit of the Paranormal Activity franchise now being as much of a jerk to a group of Latino kids and their car as it has been to a bunch of Southern California families and their houses. And it wasn’t exactly impressive, looking more like a repackaged version of the first four films with new actors and a (Paramount hopes) expanded audience base.
But hey, we can’t stay mad at the Paranormal Activity franchise, as it has arrived today with the gift of Halloween click-bait for movie news websites such ours in the form a theatrical poster. The poster hits up the Catholicism angle by featuring a nun with a skull-face whose forehead is adorned with the symbol of the cult that keeps popping up in the last five minutes of the last two Paranormal Activity sequels.
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is set for a January 3, 2013 release date.
What do you think of the poster?
