Well, we reported that this was likely a done deal back in early October, and today it’s been made official: Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Savages, the Kick-Ass films) has officially been confirmed as Pietro Maximoff in the Joss Whedon-penned and directed The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Taylor-Johnson has long been the front-runner for the role, but today’s news confirmed what we have all been suspecting, since we have neither the ability nor maturity level to not endlessly speculate and spoil upcoming blockbusters.
That said, Taylor-Johnson will not be the first person to play the quickster mutant on film—that honor goes to Evan Peters, who has been cast as Quicksilver in Bryan Singer’s X-Men:
Suck It, Marvel Days of Future Past, marking perhaps the first time two rival studios with two rival superhero film franchises will be featuring the same character (though he won’t be designated as a mutant in The Avengers: Age of Ultron).
In The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Quicksilver will be featured with his sister, Wanda Maximoff, also known as The Scarlet Witch. Elizabeth Olsen is the actress we, THE INTERNET, have officially designated as frontrunner for the role.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set for May 1, 2015.
