Despite the fact that it was clearly a Die Hard knock-off in which an average Joe Badass was caught in the wrong place and wrong time (and faced competition with a very similar White House Down), Olympus Has Fallen scored big at the box office this summer. /Film notes that whole White House Down, had a higher gross of $205 million on a $150 million budget, Olympus Has Fallen actually made more money by virtue of having a lower budget ($70 million, scoring $161 million at the box office). And so, of course, guess which of the films is getting a sequel?
That’s right—Olympus Has Fallen will be getting a sequel, with stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell set to reprise their roles, with screenwriters Katrin Benedickt and Creighton Rothenberger returning as well. However, director Antoine Fuqua will not be returning.
Oh, as for the title? London Has Fallen. Guess where the movie is set?
In the film, a terrorist plot to hit London occurs during the funeral for the British Prime Minister. Since the president of the United States (Eckhart) and his head of Secret Service (Butler) are both on hand, they decide to team up with an English MI6 agent to save the day.
