Some interesting news broke late yesterday, though it’s of the increasingly grating “these people could totally star in this upcoming blockbuster, you guys !(but, ok, they totally might not, either!)” variety: Variety has reported that Edgar Wright has winnowed his casting choices to play Hank Pym (a.k.a. Ant-Man) in the upcoming Ant-Man down to Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
First off, Gordon-Levitt: while he’s a fine, intelligent, and charismatic actor, Gordon-Levitt has already done the comic-book movie thing with another franchise (The Dark Knight Rises), and he’s more and more becoming the name that gets thrown into the hat for a superhero film but doesn’t go for it (Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange).
We’re far more intrigued by Rudd, a solid actor who’s gone the Vince Vaughn route and comfortably entrenched himself in comedy after comedy, but could really shine in an comedic action-comedy with some more dramatic underpinnings.
Variety is also reporting that a third actor may fall into the running, but for now, the contention is between Rudd and Gordon-Levitt.
Who do you want to see as Ant-Man?
