Ok, guys, brace yourselves for the most bracing, gripping, tantalizing, galvanizing, ineffably world-altering news you’re likely to hear or read or speak all day (ok, given, it’s a slow news day so all of that could change if news leaks that Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be cast in his 3,000th movie of 2013, in which case that will become the biggest entertainment news A-bomb of the day): Star Wars Episode VII’s title may have been boiled down to two contenders: Star Wars Episode VII: Rise of the Jedi and Star Wars Episode VII: Return of the Sith.
The typically accurate Latino Review (via Cinema Blend) is leaking the news, specifying that rumor has it these two titles were the front-runners back when George Lucas was tinkering with a new sequel trilogy before he turned over the reins to Disney and J.J. Abrams.
Both titles, while somewhat opposed, hint at plot points for the new trilogy—Star Wars Episode VII: Rise of the Jedi hints at a post-Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi galaxy in which, having defeated the Empire, the Jedi are finally rebuilding their order after the Emperer, clone army, and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader wiped them all out in the prequel trilogy. Further, Star Wars Episode VII: Return of the Sith both echoes Return of the Jedi, and indicates that the Sith, too, are rebuilding after the events of Jedi.
What do you think—which title (if either) do you prefer?
