In late August, we reported on multiple rumors that Elizabeth Olsen was in talks to star as the character Scarlet Witch in the upcoming sequel to The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. At the time, none of the rumors were officially substantiated or confirmed by Marvel, so we still had to take the news with a grain of salt. But now, a confirmation has come from someone officially connected with the franchise (while still not an official confirmation from Marvel).
Samuel L. Jackson, who stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as S.H.I.E.L.D. mega-agent Nick Fury, was recently interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and some details concerning The Avengers: Age of Ultron were slipped in.
First off, Jackson noted that shooting will likely begin in March of 2014 in London, and that James Spader will play Ultron (which we already knew). Even further, though, was the fact that he noted “that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”
While this is news that Marvel won’t officially announce for some time, it looks like Olsen is our Scarlet Witch.
