Well, there’s no stopping The Amazing Spider-Man 3 now (despite the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 isn’t set for release until May 2, 2014), as, in addition to already having a 2016 release date, Sony has selected writers for the film, and has apparently tapped the director as well.

Sony has selected Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinker to pen the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which also indicates their happiness with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was also written by Kurtzman, Orci, and Pinker.  In addition to the writers, /Film notes that Sony is opting to have director Mark Webb return for a third Spidey outing.

No word yet on what the story will involve, or who the Big Bads will be (we barely know what’s happening in The Amazing Spider-Man 2), but one thing is for sure: given the fact that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci co-wrote such films as The Island, The Legend of Zorro, Transformers, Star Trek, and Star Trek Into Darkness, you can guess that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will be really, really disappointing.

What do you think of The Amazing Spiderman 3 news—do you agree with Sony’s choices?
