One of the many sequels that will be offered to us next year is 22 Jump Street, which continues the adventures of officers Jenko and Schmidt, played by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, as they go under cover at a local college. The comedy is set to hit theaters next summer, so it’s no surprise that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have already started filming in New Orleans. As a treat to fans, Tatum and Miller offered the very first photos from the set of movie. Check them out below.
In the followup to the 21 Jump Street reboot, big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko. The high school days are over, because this time they’ll be tackling the local college scene. And yes, the sequel will bring back Ice Cube as Captain Dickson, plus Korean Jesus.
In a statement, Tatum and Hill, who seem to have great chemistry on and off the screen, shared their excitement for the sequel, saying that they’re grateful to Sony and MGM for letting them do a followup.
“We’re proud to be working alongside Phil, Chris, Neal, Ice Cube, Korean Jesus and the rest of our amazing crew and cast. As we all know, sequels are ALWAYS better than the original. Every single time. This will be no exception. How are we still saying the exact same words at the same time? This is crazy! Jump Street!”
It’s nice to know that the film’s stars are aware that this sequel can go horribly wrong. Followups are seldom better than or even just as funny/good as the originals (and 21 Jump Street wasn’t exactly an original). Hopefully this sequel will surprise us just like the original did.
22 Jump Street opens June 13, 2014.
