When she’s not busy turning busy ransacking the contents of her personal life for studio songwriters to use as fodder for annoying catchy pop songs, Taylor Swift is building up her acting chops, as the actress is now set to join the cast of the film adaption of The Giver.
She isn’t the only one, as actual actress Katie Holmes is set to join the cast as well, thanks to her history of being, well, an actress, and not a pop star who occasionally gets acting roles because of having attained pop stardom.
Holmes and Swift will be joining a cast that already includes such stellar names as Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Alexander Skarsgard, Cameron Monaghan, and Brenton Thwaites.
It’s actually something of a surprise that it’s taken this long for the classic Lois Lowry novel to happen, as it features many hallmarks of modern popular Young Adult franchises and films: set in a future utopia with a dark secret, it’s a Young Adult novel, and features a child protagonist who faces bearing the weight of the world on his shoulders.
The Giver is set for an August 15, 2014 release date.
