We’re still waiting for some sort of official casting announcement for Star Wars: Episode 7, which will be coming soon (the film is supposed to start shooting in early 2014). But with no direct word, it’s no surprise whatever crumbs fall out are pounced on by the internet. The latest news is that the film is looking for a Wookie.

Word comes from Den of Geek that the film is looking for a “Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too ‘thick set’ especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus.” That describes the build of Peter Mayhew, who previously played Chewbacca in four installments of the franchise, but the actor has recently revealed he’s too sick to reprise the role. Of course that doesn’t mean that Chewbacca will or won’t show up, and we’re guessing there will be costumed aliens in the film, but this sounds specific enough to suggest there’s either going to be a wookie, or a new actor will be in the role of Chewbacca.

Which leads us to wonder how much time will be spent with the old character, and the possible re-appearances of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford — and hell, maybe even Billy Dee Williams. Sure, we’d be happy to see them, but hopefully they’re not the focus of the film because, well, we saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Also, with Han Solo and Princess Leia married (or possibly divorced, because there could be space divorces), it could make Chewie a third wheel. Perhaps he helps around the house or lives in their space garage. Though with the empire defeated, it’s also possible he’s returned home to Itchy, Malla and Lumpy.

How many old characters do you want to see in the new Star Wars?
