The first teaser has been released for True Detective, the upcoming HBO series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and costarring Michelle Monaghan, Alexandra Daddario, and Elizabeth Reaser. Stylish and dark, the trailer looks awfully enticing.
Written and created by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga, the limited, eight-episode series concerns a series of murders in 1995 being investigated over the course of 17 years by two detectives, portrayed by McConaughey and Harrelson. And, given a few flash-forwards that featured a haggard, harried and mustached McConaughey, the assumption is that the case begins to take a toll on the titular detectives attempting to solve it. Or, to paraphrase /Film, it seems a lot like David Fincher’s Zodiac, in the best possible way. Check it out:
Not much else is known about the dark and moody-looking series, other than the fact that it is set for a January 2014 premiere, and by all accounts is more or less more of a miniseries than a full series, as the storyline is encapsulated within an eight-episode span. So, unlike shows like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, and the The Wire, try not to get too attached. It’s going to be quick.
