Tina Fey, Miley Cyrus, Bruce Willis

Saturday Night Live has gone though a huge overhaul in the last year and change, not only losing Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig the year before, but this year Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis all bailed, while Seth Meyers will be leaving soon to host Late Night. That’s not going to stop people from tuning in, especially after the show announced the first three hosts of the program’s thirty-ninth season. Those hosts: Tina Fey, Miley Cyrus and Bruce Willis.

Fey will host the season opener on September 28 with Arcade Fire as her musical guest. That will be followed on October 5 by Cyrus, who will host and do the music, and then on October 12 Willis will host with Katy Perry as his musical act. Fey opening the season feels like it’s trying to give everyone an easy episode as there are five new cast members in the mix. But with Fey there it probably means that she will get behind the news desk, and Amy Poehler is likely to show up just because.

Cyrus has done a lot of acting, but as a lot of people have just discovered her and the word twerk, it’s possible that she could surprise audiences with doing some funny/risque material. Expect her to do things that play on her MTV VMA appearance for sure. The most interesting choice is Willis. Something like this could show Bruce awake and having fun, which would be different than 80% of the movies he currently makes. Then again, he could also turn in a Robert De Niro-level “I’ll look at the cue cards and say my lines, and go home” performance. You never know.

Did you realize that SNL is almost 40?
