OK, superhero movie fans, ready for one of those wildly speculative casting rumors posts that only the internet is capable of spontaneously generating? You are? Great, because have we got one for you.
As you may remember, THR reported in May of this year that Marvel already has a script ready for Ms. Marvel, the female counterpart to Captain Marvel (Ms. Marvel is also occasionally called Captain Marvel, but don’t make us get into that here, it gets confusing). Now, that news alone doesn’t mean much; however, when coupled with two recent news bits, things begin to get interesting.
Coming Soon (via /Film) is reporting that Louis D’Esposito (producer of Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers) has let it slip that Marvel is moving towards introducing a female superhero with her own film:
There’s obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero…[W]e have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there’s an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?
With us so far? Now, add to that the fact that actress Katee Sackhoff was asked about the developments in the Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel world, and the actress simply had this to say:
Um… There’s been some stuff going on. Um… there’s been a lot of checking of availability… I don’t quite know exactly… I don’t know… there’s been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year…
So… given the fact that Marvel does indeed have a Captain Marvel/ Ms. Marvel film in development, is currently pushing for a female-driven superhero film, and Marvel has been inquiring about Sackhoff’s availability…
…do you think Sackhoff has been approached for a Captain Marvel/ Ms. Marvel film?
