Remember in August of 2012, when rumors flew that Ben Affleck would direct the rumored Justice League film (and likely star as one of the heroes, probably Batman)? And then remember when the rumors were quickly dashed? And how about that time Affleck said he’d never play another costumed crusader after his Daredevil debacle, in which he stated:
“I would not do another. I was cured of that. That experience was not that much fun. And it’s not something I’m particularly looking to go through again…If there’s anything I can promise you, it’s that the years of superhero are behind me.”
Despite his apparent aversion to playing a superhero (and the fact that Josh Brolin seemed to be the frontrunner), Ben Affleck will be our new Batman, replacing Christian Bale. One imagines that Warner Bros. likely left about 15 dump trucks full of money in his backyard to erase the terrible, terrible memory of Daredevil.
Says director Zack Snyder:
“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
So… Affleck is our new Batman. Not exactly the most interest choice, is it?
What do you think about the new Batman?
