Despite the fact that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is something of a mystery—how will Marvel fold the story of a group of interstellar cops (that feature aliens, a sentient tree, and a talking cybernetic raccoon) into its preexisting cinematic universe, who will be the Big Bad, etc—most of the casting questions have long since been answered, as we know that Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Vin Diesel are all set to star. However, one casting question remains: who will voice Rocket Raccoon, the pissed-off, gun-toting, half-cyborg talking raccoon? We may have the answer.
According to Latino Review (who are usually pretty reliable with casting rumors), Bradley Cooper has been offered the role of Rocket Raccoon’s voice. Keep in mind this does not mean that he will accept; rather, the job is simply his if he wants it.
Cooper, while something of a surprise, may indeed be a good fit for the role—the actor has always done well playing characters for whom anger is a driving force, and director James Gunn has noted that the cinematic version of Rocket will be “that’s a little animal that’s taken and experimented on, pulled apart and put back together again and implanted with cybernetics. He’s half machine and half raccoon and he’s a little gnarled, miserable pretty angry creature because there’s nothing else like him and that’s not easy to be.” Translation: One really, really angry little raccoon with access to a lot of guns.
More on this as it develops…
