There’s always a twinge of nervousness that fans of an original movie have when they see more information pop up on the impending remake. Will it be just another carbon copy remake of the original, or will it be more of it’s own being, in some ways creatively separating itself from it’s first incarnation? With the new batch of pictures that have popped up for Spike Lee‘s interpretation of Oldboy, it looks like it may be leaning more towards the former, but we’ll let you be the judge.
Among the new images, shown below, we see our main character Joe Doucett (Josh Brolin) getting ready to bash some body parts in with the iconic hammer. It’ll be interesting to see the way that Spike Lee handles that action scene in particular, among others, due to the really cool vision that reigns supreme in the Chan-wook Park original. Granted there will be some judging popping up from the side of movie-goers who have seen the first Oldboy, but considering the look of this remake so far we may be in for a bit of a treat. At least it has a fantastic cast backing it up, including the likes of Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Sharlto Copley and many others.
Oldboy will be out right in the midst of Oscar season on November 27th. Whether or not the film has a fine enough combination of greatness stored inside it to warrant any sort of Academy consideration will be up to many who see it in a couple month’s time.
Will you see the Oldboy remake when it comes out in theaters?
