tom-hiddleston

In both Thor and The Avengersthe well-spoken but sinister Loki (Tom Hiddleston) shined among the rest as the new fan-favorite villain. But might we be seeing a little too much of him in Thor: The Dark World thanks to reshoots? While that’ll make most fans happy, the footage that was shown at Comic-Con/D23 Expo makes me wonder about who the true villain is of the upcoming sequel.

First off yes, they are doing reshoots that involve more scenes with our favorite mischievous god Loki. The last we saw of him he was handcuffed and had a muzzle on him, being whisked away back to Asgard to pay for his crimes. As it was clearly shown in the first trailer, no real harm has come to Loki. All he’s doing right now is chilling in a prison, and a pretty posh one at that. After all he is a noble of sorts in the kingdom before he went on his villainous streak, so they had to treat him with some courtesy even if he is a prisoner. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) calls upon his fickle brother to aid him in the quest to stop Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) and his legion of dark elves.

If they’re going to add more scenes of Loki in the bunch then that means Hiddleston will pretty much be a co-star at this point as he helps Thor defeat Malekith the Accursed. But we all know how Loki loves to team up with others, so from the extra footage we saw at the D23 Expo this past weekend, it’s obvious that he strikes up an alliance with the bad side. Does that mean Loki will turn out to be the true villain once again? If that’s the case it would be a little disappointing. We already had Loki as the villain in two Marvel movies, and if they were to do that in this one, then the talent of Christopher Eccleston as Malekith could be seen as a waste. At the same time Marvel’s starting to go in weary territory, relying on a character a little too heavily to keep the audience’s interests. We’ve seen 20th Century Fox do this with Wolverine in all of the X-Men films released so far. I hope that they decide to get a little more creative out there and let Loki sit on the sidelines while some other cool villains of the Marvel universe get the chance to step it up. At least we’ll be getting that with The Avengers 2 but Ultron? Really? Yawn.
