If there is a film with a better pedigree than The Counselor coming out this year, we haven’t heard about it. Written by Cormac McCarthy, one of the greatest living novelists in the English language (Blood Meridian, No Country for Old Me, The Road), directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner), and starring Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, and Dean Norris, The Counselor is bursting with talent from just about every angle. And now, it has a full trailer.
We don’t know much about the film’s plot aside from the barest of sketches: Michael Fassbender plays the titular attorney, who somehow teams up with Javier Bardem’s follicly-stimulated character to sell $20 million worth of cocaine. And, because this is a Cormac McCarthy script, something goes pretty brutally and biblically wrong. Dig the trailer:
Again, not much is really revealed—Fassbender and Penelope Cruz play an engaged couple, Cameron Diaz has got some wild roots and wilder dresses, and Brad Pitt continues to allow his hair to morph into an entirely separate creature from himself (see also: World War Z). All in all, though? We’re sold on The Counselor.
