Nearly one year ago, we reported to you that FX was producing the second television series adaptation of the Joel and Ethan Coen’s masterpiece (well, one of their masterpieces), Fargo. It will be the second time the film gets the television series treatment (Edie Falco starred in a failed pilot for a Fargo series in the 1990s). And now, the 10 episode television series just scored its first major casting coup, in the form of the series’ villain: Billy Bob Thornton.
According to Deadline (via /Film), the mercurial character actor Billy Bob Thornton has been hired to play one of the primary characters in the Fargo series—Lorne Maylo, who happens to be “a rootless, manipulative man who meets a small town insurance salesman and sets him on a path of destruction.”
And for those of you Fargo fans who are noticing that there is no Lorne Maylo in the original film, FX’s version of Fargo will not be a direct remake of the original film; rather, it will borrow the quirky Minnesota vibe and character types that are featured in the film.
What do you think of the Fargo television series news, and the casting of Billy Bob Thornton?
