One of the big questions regarding the upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron film is what, exactly, will be the origin of the robotic mega-villain Ultron—after all, in the comic, Utron is created by Hank Pym (a.k.a., Ant-Man); however, Joss Whedon has stated that Ant-Man will not appear in the new Avengers film, and will not be responsible for Ultron’s creation in the new film. So, who makes Ultron? We’ve got the major spoilers (as well as details about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) after the jump.
Again, OK, just so we’re totally clear here: MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW. SERIOUSLY, WE JUST WARNED YOU. YOU CAN’T BE MAD NOW.
It appears that Tony Stark will be responsible for the creation of Ultron in the newest film. How do we know? Well, the people at Feature Film Casting, who are casting the film, including some major spoilers when sending out their casting call for the film:
In “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” Loki is gone and the new villain will be the evil robot Ultron, who has the ability to keep upgrading his own strength, making him extremely fearsome. Tony Stark/Iron Man becomes the unwitting creator of Ultron. The brother-and-sister team of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch become the seventh and eighth members of The Avengers. Quicksilver has extreme speed, while Scarlet Witch can cast spells and has telekinesis ability. Black Widow and Hawkeye will be key figures in the film.
So there you go: Tony Stark does it. It’s a little obvious, and seems like a move made to find something for Robert Downey Jr. to do in the movie, but it also works, since Stark’s suits were all destroyed at the end of Iron Man 3—perhaps his experiments with suits and A.I. finally goes awry and leads to Ultron.
Also, as you likely noticed, we got some extra bits about the other Avengers—Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are officially joining the team, and Black Widow and Hawkeye will apparently go from being really boring to really important.
