If first you don’t succeed with The Fighter, you try Silver Linings Playbook, and if you don’t succeed with that you try again with American Hustle it seems. Or at least that appears to be David O. Russell‘s playbook. For the third time in four years, he’s going for Oscar glory with his latest starring Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner and more. Here’s the first trailer.
And here Russell lets the wardrobes, costumes and wigs do a lot of the visual lifting, while Led Zepplin’s “Good Times, Bad Times” keeps it rocking. Perhaps that’s because the film is about the Abscam scandal, which is less easy to put into a two minute ad. Here’s that trailer:
And, for those who want commentary over their trailer, but also a talk with David O. Russell, here is the trailer’s premiere this morning on Good Morning America:
Though the trailer makes it look like the film is light on Jennifer Lawrence (who’s also been filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and X-Men: Days of Future Past), American Hustle also stars Robert De Niro, Michael Pena, and Louis C.K., so there’s a lot of talent to go around. And as you can probably guess the film has a release date of December 13 in limited markets before going into wide release for Christmas.
Is the third time the charm for David O. Russell?
