The first teaser trailer for Homeland‘s third season doesn’t offer a whole lot. As a matter of fact, there’s nothing but a black screen and some snippets of dialogue asking for, you guessed it, Brody. If you thought that the third season was going to pull back from the whole “Brody is a terrorist” thing, and let Claire Danes‘ Carrie do her own thing (as the producers had said), well this clip shows otherwise. See it (or rather hear it) below.
In the second season finale of Homeland we saw Carrie helping Brody escape by dropping him off near the Canadian border, and the CIA building go up in flames. New roles were assigned and things changed over night. How exactly things changed, remains to be seen, but if the producers stick to what they’ve said, then this means we’re going to be seeing a lot less of Brody in the upcoming season. Homeland’s executive producer Alex Gansa told TVLine last December that “Damian’s [Lewis] involvement and [the actors who played his family] is very much up in the air.”
In a later interview The Guardian, Homeland creator Howard Gordon said that the entire upcoming season could be “Homeland without Brody,” though he did point out the importance of Carrie and Brodie’s relationship.
“That relationship is in some ways sacred… The Brody-Carrie story has to evolve.”
The first teaser trailer doesn’t show anything, but it does go against everything the show producers have been saying. It’s heavy on the Brody and light on the Carrie (we don’t hear Danes’ voice at all actually). Check it out below.
Homeland will return on Sunday, September 29 on Showtime.
